Happy 2013 New Year!

The year started off with illness around our house. It's the first time we were both sick at the same time. We did, however, manage just fine although we would've been happier had our illness passed more quickly than it did.

I am joyful to say that we are both on the mend and looking forward to Spring.

So we're back in the saddle again: I am creating new jewelry for our upcoming Spring shows & Stephen has acquired a new camera & lens and I'm satisfied to receive his camera hand-me-down.

Be sure to check out Upcoming Show page to see where you can find us in the coming months.

<![CDATA[2012 California Mid-State Fair Cattle Drive]]>Sat, 21 Jul 2012 18:42:12 GMThttp://www.earthnskystudio.com/2/post/2012/07/2012-california-mid-state-fair-cattle-drive.htmlEvery mid-July, when the California Mid-State Fair opens in Paso Robles, the Cattle Drive takes place on the first day as the opening event.

Last year was our first year living in Paso Robles and we were out of town that day and were disappointed that we missed seeing it. Unfortunately, I missed out again this year because I was home sick. Bummer!

Stephen walked down the street & around the corner to take these shots of the event. Thank you, Sweetie ~ I plan to attend next year for sure!

OK, so here's how it works: the annual Cattle Drive begins down the road around the corner from our house and then they languidly mosey into town ~ coming to an end at the fairgrounds, which is a mile and a half from the start.

If you live in a small town, you'll recognize the importance of the community events that take place, and if you live in a larger city, we hope this will give you a small taste of what it's like to live in a small town. Enjoy! Yahoo & onward little cowpoke!

The Cattle Drive began with locals riding in wagons.

Not sure who the people in the car are but you can see the small kids lined up in the windows in the top of the van, watching from a birds-eye view.

Yippee Ai-Ay! Here they finally come! As you see, there were waaaay more cowboys/cowgirls than cows, but what the heck? It was fun!

Picture

The horses on the corner got so excited when they noticed all the ruckus coming down the road ~ especially when they noticed the other horses getting nearer. They started running around their corral, shaking their heads, kicking up their heels, snorting & whinnying!

Picture

A group of intellectually disabled kids were there to watch the procession. One of them (a boy) crouched down very low, put his head down for the whole procession, covered his mouth & bellowed in a low voice "Moooooo moooooo moooooo". He really was enjoying himself! And hey, that's what it's all about!

Picture

Even some very young riders got into the action!

Yes, it's all over. They've moved through the neighborhood, onward towards town and the fairgrounds. It was fun while it lasted and it'll happen again next year at this time. So we'll just hang out and wait until then. Happy Trails!

<![CDATA[Summer Concerts Have Begun!]]>Sun, 01 Jul 2012 01:57:08 GMThttp://www.earthnskystudio.com/2/post/2012/06/summer-concerts-have-begun.html
Well, summer has finally arrived ~ with hot temps & plenty of summer concerts in the local parks!

Last Wednesday we joined some friends (along with their friends who we didn't know but who are now considered our friends ~ that's how things tend to work around here ^_^) at the Templeton concert. If you've never witnessed bandmembers dressed in lederhosen, playing Inna-Gadda-Da Vita with accordion accompaniment, you're missing out! The band was Trio Internationale and they were very entertaining & humorous (in a good way!). Little kids were holding hands & dancing in a circle to the polkas and big people were rocking out to classic rock songs ~ not at the same time, luckily.

Friday evenings there are concerts being held in the park square in Paso Robles. It's amazing just to watch people set up their picnic areas. Some bring small foldable tables, spread out beautiful floral cloth runners on top of them and then set their table with wine glasses & nice dishes! No plastic picnic utensils for them! The wine flows freely and as the evening progresses, the dance floor in front of the gazebo bandstand fills up quickly with dancers of all ages. It's really sweet to see the intergenerational gyrations going on.

We've heard that Atascadero also offers free evening concerts at the Atascadero Lake on Saturday evenings but we haven't been able to make it out for one of those. When we do, I'm sure I'll make mention of it on the blog.

Hope you're enjoying the summer months wherever you reside and are keeping that wine flowing! ^_^

Cheers,
Diane

<![CDATA[Memorial Day Weekend]]>Tue, 29 May 2012 00:15:59 GMThttp://www.earthnskystudio.com/2/post/2012/05/memorial-day-weekend.htmlPicture

We were lucky to spend Saturday of this weekend out at Veris Cellars in Templeton, CA showing our art. The day was beautiful, albeit a bit windy to spend too much time outside. Luckily, Sherman & Marissa had us indoors along with Jeanine from An Affair to Remember Catering. We had such a great time that day, making new friends and enjoying some delicious wines.

We had not met Jeanine, Jerry & Tina until we arrived at Veris. They are a great bunch of people and talk about some delicious food! Wow! Not only is their food delicious but it's very creative & fun!

Jeanine describes herself as a "germophobe" and makes sure that the food she presents is not only the very freshest available but she's very picky about her kitchen too.

I am really looking forward to planning a get-together with friends and hiring An Affair to Remember Catering to make the food. Even if it's just a small gathering, they will come. From big to small, just call Jeanine! ^_^

<![CDATA[May 28th, 2012]]>Tue, 29 May 2012 00:06:22 GMThttp://www.earthnskystudio.com/2/post/2012/05/may-28th-2012.html<![CDATA[30th Annual Wine Festival]]>Tue, 15 May 2012 16:45:19 GMThttp://www.earthnskystudio.com/2/post/2012/05/30th-annual-wine-festival.htmlOK, so Paso Robles, CA is right in the center of the Central Coast wine region & our annual wine festival is a BIG DEAL around here! I'm posting the link at the bottom in case you'd like to check it out.

Our small town atmosphere is in high-gear this week in preparation for the big event. We were very bummed that we had to turn down an invitation to show our art at Red Soles Winery this weekend yet spending time with our two grandsons took a priority seat. ^_^ Thank goodness, Red Soles was kind enough to invite us to come out to their place and show on June 30th instead and we're looking forward to joining them at that time.

Like I said above, our little town is bustling! Shop owners are expediting orders to be received to re-stock their shops for the visitors that will be arriving. Hotels/restaurants are gearing up to serve extra food & booking musicians for live music.

Paso Robles has a large old-fashioned park (with a band gazebo, a fountain & a Carnegie Library-turned local history museum) in the center of our downtown. Huge old Oak trees grace the entire park and most of our community events take place here, whether we are celebrating the return of a local soldier, a festival of some sort or summer concerts in the park.

The historial bricked Paso Robles Inn sits on the west side of the park where guests sit on the upper outside balcony enjoying their evening wine while watching over the town's activity.

Our library sits to the south, a gorgeous working art studio is to the east and wonderful restaurants/clothing/shoe shops sits to the north. It truly is a magical place, especially in the evenings when the little white lights gracing the trees turn on.

If you can make it out this weekend, please join us for the 30th Annual Wine Fest & partake of some of California's TASTIEST wines! ^_^

Cheers!
Diane

<![CDATA[A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood]]>Mon, 14 May 2012 23:19:04 GMThttp://www.earthnskystudio.com/2/post/2012/05/a-beautiful-day-in-the-neighborhood.htmlOh my gosh, today is so gorgeous! The wind was quiet around noon and so Stephen & I enjoyed a great little lunch outside in the courtyard with Cricket. Somehow eating outside changes everything, from the taste of the food to our attitudes. All things become better when enjoying Nature's blessings with beautiful sunshine & fresh air!

Earlier this morning, I ran downtown & did a little shopping. I am totally in love with Kaya - a little shop where I purchased an adorable long black & white dress yesterday to wear to my nephew's wedding in AZ this summer.

While in there, Kay (the owner) & I got to talking about landscaping - and found that we have a love of ocotillos in common. In case you're not aware, they are large spindly plants found in AZ and they produce gorgeous orange-colored flowers around this time of year. Well, Kay is a very lucky woman because she has one in a pot in the front of her home.

She invited me to drive by and take a look at it, so I think I will do just that this afternoon! Now keep in mind that I do not know Kay personally. I've just met her. This little scenario is but one small piece of evidence that our little town is very friendly and welcoming!

Since this is my first post and I don't really know how to blog yet, I can only hope to learn the art of this as I go along. I will be sharing with you our newfound love of living amongst the oaks & vines in Paso Robles' Wine Country. Welcome to the "neighborhood"! ^_^

Oh yeah, and if get a chance to stop by Paso Robles, be sure to stop in at Kaya and take a look at the adorable clothes Kay carries - the little shop has an upscale world trade vibe and I really think you'll love it! Plus, Kay has lived in several different countries & cultures and I'm sure she'll be more than happy to share stories about them.

Cheers!
